Thursday's Thoughts

The thought of the day:

You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into. ~Author Unknown
Sometimes you find that your friend has wandered into a position where no reason can reach, and sometimes it is you that blindly fumble into a situation that you did not foresee. The bottom line is that only very rarely can one be guided out of an unreasonable situation with logic. Like a stubborn mule mired in the mud, when we find ourselves in a bad spot that either our lack of planning or our faith brought us to, we humans often just put our heads down and try to plow on through with the same lack of reason and logic. Our only hope is to open our minds to our own flaws and hope that we can learn to listen when others offer a helping hand. And when it is our turn to illuminate the path of another, we must refrain from forceful reason and ease our fellow man into the logic that eluded them.

Good luck, and have a great week.

Weight Watcher's Tuesday

Drum Roll please..........

I lost 3.4 lbs this week!!!!!

Freakin' A! It works!

LOL

I took the whole family with me to the meeting so that we could go out afterwards, and the Leader swooned over Jay. It was so funny. She told him at least twice he was cute, maybe even three times (Well, he IS) ((She's 60, so it's cute she was swooning. He he he))

Miah was so well behaved, holy cow. Laurel as usual hardly spoke, but Anita tried. It was a good meeting.

It's hotter than hell in this room (still no air conditioner, Jay's calling tomorrow to find out what's up.) so I'm going to go sit under the ceiling fan, and cool off. I have tons of pics and such, so darned it as soon as it's less than 80 in the art room, I'll start posting them. Until next time...

Calling all Bananas

A long, long time ago, in a deployment far, far away, this song brought unity to a communications section. A friend of mine would torture us with this song on repeat for upwards of an hour at a time. After a while it became an anthem. Please enjoy.

Thursday's Thoughts

Today's thought:
Time, why you punish me?...You ain't no friend of mine. I don't know where I'm going, I think I'm out of my mind, thinking about time. - "Time", Hootie and the Blowfish
Isn't time just the cruelest master? Many of the quotes that had made it into my book over the years have referred to time in one way or another. I don't know the best way to wrestle the idea of it to the ground. Linear, cyclic, an illusion of our three dimensional minds, I have and will again weigh the merits of what time is, but the crux of today's rant is that I would very much like to be more able to control the way I spend mine. The army has turned my every moment into such a commodity that I desperately scramble to make sure that I am using to each one to it's fullest potential. This weekend is extended for the holiday, and long weekends are not something that we get often here in TRADOC, but still they are finding ways to chip away at my weekend and take time from my family. I think that I like my new job, the influence that I have on the next face of the Signal Corps is a bit of an ego-inflater, I just wish the hours weren't so extensive.

Let me bid you all a good week before I whine your eyes off. Take care.

Weight Watcher's Tuesday

I lost 1.2 LBS. this week! Thank goodness! Yay! This week I start doing Yoga again.
The topic this week was how to survive Memorial weekend. Easy for me, b/c we don't do anything...But Laurel's Birthday is coming up the same week....So I'll have to be extra careful.
I really got into the meeting today, and since I've been doing this off and on for a while, I knew a lot of tips to help the newbies. My W.W. meeting Leader seems to like me, b/c she keeps asking me questions in the meeting, and calling me to be the "captain" (as she called it) of group activities. LOL This leadership things seems to follow me wherever I go. I swear to God I don't do anything....
Anyway, It was a great meeting, and I'm now off to watch the View and do laundry.
See ya later!
P.S. I am from the North...so can someone please explain to me what Hash Rice is? Everyone was talking about how it was soooo good, and sooo hard to resist....I've never heard of it! I got called out as "not from around here." Pretty funny. I haven't been "from around here" for more than twenty years!

The Girls' New Buddy

Miah found this little guy in our backyard this morning. I'm not sure how he got there, because the yard is completely fenced in... The girls were fascinated, staring at him for the longest amount of time I've ever seen Miah hold still. The poor guy is all beat up, and obviously has been attacked by a dog, so we left him in the yard with hopes he'll stay safe.
Laurel named him Rolly. Goofy kid.

Laurel Loo and The New Do!

Curious? Here's Boo's New Do! She said she wanted to look more like Daddy-which of course melted his little heart, and he didn't complain too much. :) I'd like to point out that this was supposed to wash out in 22 washes, and it's not fading. As a matter of fact, her roots are coming in, before the color fades! What the hell??

Trying to be serious. Only pulled off looking cute!

Look at those BLUE eyes!

Weaving vines into crowns.

Not a lot has been going on. I did find a Weight Watcher's center here...I'm on week two (all over again) and now that we are settled, I can focus again. I am going to start posting on Tuesdays again as soon as I weigh in Next Tuesday. I debated whether I wanted to post how much I weigh, but I decided it's none of your business!! LOL

I bought an antique Hoosier cabinet to use as an island in my kitchen:

It's an awesome addition to the space. It is amazing how much space this one more cabinet gave me. I find that I use it as a prep station much more than the built in cabinets now. It's just feels more natural. That was a great buy for $150.00!

There are only 6 more days of school left here. I'm glad to be able to sleep in a bit, but nervous about how I'm going to occupy the girls for three months. I'm thinking that a lot of garden and yard work are in order!

Laurel received honors last week for her grades, and I had to sit through the worst ceremony possible. I know you are supposed to sit there all proud and happy, but they turned it into a replica of the band/chorus concert I'd seen last night, PLUS a girl singing a Kelly Clarkson (I think) song who couldn't sing very well. It killed my ears, and oh, how sometimes I wish that parents didn't have to show up for some of this stuff. The only good part of the morning was that I got to hear Laurel's band play the National Anthem, and to also find out that this is the first time that the sixth grade band has been good enough to play the piece (it is a hard piece of music to play) Jay attributes this to Laurel's self proclaimed AWEsomeness.

(It literally took all day for this to load, so I hope you enjoy it! Holy cow this thing is slow!)

I recently bought a couple of antique typewriters and cameras to decorate my mantel with. As I'm exploring the bigger camera, I think, why not try to take a digital photo through the lens, or through the back of the camera even? I played with both cameras for a while and this is what I came up with. Mind you, the subject is half dressed, and eating popcorn, so it's not the best pic ever, but it has potential. I'd love to find actual film for the camera and try it out. It's old but the parts all work. It anyone knows where I might find a source for old film....let me know!

We also found a farmer's market nearby, that has raw honey (it's incredibly good) and great produce. I made some awesome fried green tomatoes.

Well, that's about it! I've been under the weather for about a month now, but I think it's pretty much over now. The kids never did get sick, thank goodness! But now that I'm feeling up to par, I'll have a little more to write about.

Until next time!

Thursday's Thoughts

Today's Thought
No snowflake ever falls in the wrong place.
I had written this down a while ago, and forgot that it was in my book. It's a very determinist thought, requiring a strong belief in fate. I personally blend a bit of random into my fatalism, but that is a long discussion. Setting aside the implications for a moment, I would like to picture myself as the snowflake for a moment. I know that our friend Mr. Durden tells us that we are not beautiful and unique snowflakes, but let's suspend that for a moment. I would like to think of myself as that snowflake, that no mater where I land, I am in the right place. It's a nice thought, and kind of hard to be mad at the world when you think of things that way.
Have a great week.

Spring Concert

Spring concert begins:

Please forgive the shaking. There was an incredibly rude little girl shaking the bleachers, and her parents just let her continue....errrg.

This band is a lot bigger than Laurel's last. She sort of blended in this time, but you can spot her in the background, near the middle. From the awards given out, this band seems to also be more advanced. I hope this encourages her to continue to be her best. I'm so proud of my little boogie bear!

I love and miss the "after preformance band chaos".

When we went back to the bandroom, Jay pointed out the Band closet. Ha, really funny there mister. There is only one other person that knows why that's funny, and it will stay that way...But for that person, I now post the Band Closet Picture:

Looks a lot nicer than ours used to! Notice that there is NO door. lol

My girls really do love eachother. Miah looked up at her sister, and held out her hand, and without thinking about it, Laurel grabbed it. They are so cute!

I have to get to Laurel's school for the awards ceremony, so I'll post that later. I think Laurel's just getting one for her grades...but I'm not sure. Until later!

Home isn't always where the Army sends us.

When I get homesick, these are the places I think of. I found this video on Youtube and it was just amazing to see places I used to eat at, the first place I ate real BBQ, my old highschool, and the Metcalfe Co lake where we camped when we first moved there. If it weren't for some of the people that I'd run into when I went back, this is where I'd like to go back to.
You'll have to ignore the pics of people at the end of the video. Even though Edmonton is a tiny town, I have no clue who these guys are! It's almost amazing that I don't, really!

Thursday's Thoughts

Today's Thought:
Value increases proportionally with cost. Not necessarily with price, but with cost. -0810 11DEC03
Busy week for me, I've not been spending a lot of time in the class learning how to teach in this environment, about 8 hours a day, but that has led to a lot more family time. And the time I get to spend with my family is now far more valuable than it used to be. This class wants me to do a class on one of my hobbies, and I found myself wondering if I could do it on my 3 ladies. Have a great week
