Laurel's Marching Band Competition Photos (365)

This picture was taken with Miah's camera...it doesn't seem to have a focus function! This is the saxophone section of the band, warming up in the dark in full uniform.  The light behind them is someone's headlights as they were driving away...I grabbed the only camera that had batteries left, so it's not the best quality.  I love how it is reminiscent of the picture taken of Jay on the mountain in Iraq. 
Laurel's band had their second competition tonight.  They earned superiors in all categories, and won grand champion!!!  Poor Laurel got sick again, so she didn't march the first time around, but was better by the time they marched the second. 
Jay and I stuck around after the rest of the band parents went back to the stands, just in case Laurel got sick again.  She was fine, but because we were there we got to listen to them warm up.  The entire band formed up into a horseshoe shape, and we were standing in the middle of it.  The sound of them playing was intense.  I don't think I can describe it well enough to do it justice. 
When the judge announced that our band won, we exploded in the stands.  Jay and I actually "woo'ed" and screamed our heads off.  Miah nearly lost her voice.  Xavier's mom Donna was dancing and screaming to the point that she was contagious.  We couldn't contain our excitement!  I don't think I have ever gotten that excited about anything I've ever done in my life.  Not even at my own band competitions.  I dearly wish that April and BJ, Laurel's brothers, and Mom and Ron could have been there.  It was incredible.

Jay got the computer set up today!  He also finished clearing, so he no longer belongs to this post.  He went to the rental company and put in our notice.  I have a list of 26 things I need to clean before we can leave.  I'm working from the top down and closing off the bedrooms after I clean them out.  Today I vacuumed the rooms, used the magic squares to wipe marks off the walls, (Those things are my favorite cleaning tool ever.) and Jay did some spot cleaning on the rugs.  It seems you cannot have two dogs and two children without having the occasional accident.  Tonight Jay took Laurel to the game two hours away, and tomorrow we are all going to the second competition, so I guess Sunday is the next day that we are going to get anything done.
Good news came by phone two days ago.  We have a house!  They aren't moving out until next month, so we are leaving the day they get out, and we will be able to set up house immediately.  Fingers crossed that it actually works out that way!

I guess that Laurel decided that this was her bed too!  After band practice the poor kid just passed out.  The dog is more than happy to be her pillow!
Jay put the cages in the front room, so I at least got a good night's sleep.  We spent the day organizing our stuff so that I would know exactly where everything is.  It's no longer chaos, so I feel better.  I am pretty tired of moving things around though.  The situation is a lot better today, but it's still going to be a long month.

Idle Wednesday

These are double hole earrings.  I saw some in a shop once, and have meant to copy the design forever.  It's extremely simple, four ear nuts, four small sterling ball beads, and a bit of wire.  These are really cool because you can wire wrap any number of things to dangle from the loop.
This Idle Wednesday marks the 52 week!  One full year of projects! I can't believe I did it!  For now, I'm going to have to take a break from the weekly post, as we are in the looong drawn out process of moving to a new post.  If I have time, I will probably make a couple of things, and I will post them AFTER we are fully settled.  I have a project due for a friend, which I will be working on, have no fear.  I set back a set of knitting needles to get it done!  The chick packing my stuff thought I was really goofy for grabbing them so she wouldn't stick them in a box!

The house is empty.  We set air mattresses up in the front room and the dogs decided that these were for them.  My dogs are seriously spoiled. 
Last night we slept in the front room in an empty house.  The echos are driving me crazy.  Jay decided to leave the dog's cages outside and let them sleep with us on the airbed.  Harley spent the night with her giant head on my chest.  I'm still sore from laying perfectly still, and I have a spot on my chest that feels bruised.  The dog's head must weigh twenty pounds.  I tried to wake her up to make her move, but she didn't' budge.  I thought for a few minutes that she might be dead...but finally she grunted and got off of me begrudgingly. This is going to be a long month...

We got bored waiting for moving day, so yesterday we went shopping for some new outfits.  Jay wanted to close his eyes at the register so he wouldn't know how much money we spent, but the lady called the number out.  I thought he was going to freak.  He HATES spending money on himself, but how much does he think three brand new pairs of jeans, and four new shirts should cost?  I've tried to get him new shoes, but he won't do it.  I'll talk him into it eventually...
