Idle Wednesday: Picasso in Thread

This one I drew myself.
The original

This interpretation I borrowed from a google image.
The Original

Miah asked to learn how to cross stitch, and she started something!  The girls are both doing their own projects, which I will post later.  Laurel branched out and started embroidering her back pack!
More pictures later!

Can't stay awake all night long? Try this:

DUH! That's because you woke me up at Stupid o'clock!
I hate these damn things.  Jay got up at I-don't-know-what-time, and found a battery, only to have to yank the damn thing back off the ceiling I-don't-know-how-much-time-went-by later, because that battery had no juice left either.  Then, well, that rude awakening in the AM.  Boy, what a day so far!

Welcome to Band Camp!!

I forgot how beautiful it is here before 7am.  The fog was beautiful, lazily floating in the nooks and crannies of the mountains.

*****

This morning I was awakened in a very strange way.  One second I was floating in dreamland, the next Laurel was bursting through my door, a little ball of nerve and coffee induced energy.  She was fully dressed, and bouncing around my room like a rubber ball.  She giggles, and says "I'll make you a cup of coffee, it's time to get up!"  I asked her of course, "What the hell is wrong with you?" She came back with another giggle, and squealed "Band CAMP, Mama!" I rolled over and stared at my clock for a minute, wondered why I was so blind, then realized my glasses were on the table.  The clock is glowing "6:01".  Shit.
And now, there's the end of my summer.
It's okay, though.  When we got to the high school there was a huge line of cheerleaders outside the door.  They were even perkier than Boo, squealing and bobbing around like insane cheerleares are wont to do. I drove around the throng, just knowing that they were going to take forever helping out the newbie cheer freaks.  As I drove around, I heard, "WELCOME TO BAND CAMP!!"
Ha ha Laurel!  She tried to go around them and slip through the back door to the band room, but one of them ran after her and dragged her back to the first door.  They made her walk the line while they squealed at her in excitement.
And now, there goes all of Laurel's perky insanity.

Uncle Bubba

Jason talking to Miah about guitars.

Leo trying to lick Laurel.

Miah cuddling with Bub.
One of the things we did while we were in Ky was to visit Jason (Bub) in Louisville.  We had a great lunch at a Chinese restaurant, went shopping on Bardstown rd, and then Jason made us dinner.  It was so good that we had to make the sweet potato fries, and gyros for Jay when he got home.  Awesome!  We stopped at a thrift shop where I found a wash stand for 30.00 that I had previously seen for over 200.00.  Jason thought I was nuts, but it's going to make an awesome plant holder.  The idea being that when I have a farm, it will live in my potting shed, so I can wash up before going back into the house. The bigger one that I have will someday be my bathroom sink. I think it was particularly funny that Jason was teasing me about it though, since he was visibly excited about a new tea pot.  It was a pretty cool tea pot though.
I wish we had been able to stay longer.  The kids miss Uncle Bubba so much.  He was all Miah could talk about for weeks.

Antique store treasure and Wistful History

On the back : "Clinton Academy" Juliette Gihnu , Fannie Dunham, Belle Alexander, Lulu Dunham, Laura Knoles, Myrtle Aifter, Audrey Knoles, and Kellie Walters (some of the names I can't make out.  I'm still trying to figure them out.
Apparently, Clinton Academy existed from 1879 to 1896 in Clinton, Missouri.

1879: Clinton Academy founded, by W. H. Stahl.
1881: Clinton Academy taken over by E. P. Lamkin.
1882: Clinton Academy moves to former Presbyterian Church building..
1884: Clinton Academy incorporated and authorized to grant degrees.
1895: Clinton Academy closed.

It's strange, but that's all I found about the school, other than the fact that the fraternity Phi Sigma Pi originated there, and that there was a hazing incident.
The lines in the photo are from my soon to be defunct scanner.  The picture has a great sepia tone, and I love the subject.  They look like they are an all girl cast for some Shakespearean play.

Canoeing with Sheila and Scotty

It started well.

We saw lots of animals.

Laurel is always going to be the front man in my canoe.

Laurel telling Scotty where to go.

Sheila started to get tired of this canoeing thing.

Laurel took us up river accidentally.

Floating with the currant.

SNAKE!

Everybody

Stuck again!

The end of the road.  I thought Sheila was going to cry!

Scotty went in in his wet boxers.  I almost died laughing.  Only in Kentucky!

You might be a military brat, if you use 550 cord to tie up your hair!

I had a sticker stuck to me all day, and now I have a suntan tattoo!

The one where I got back to blogging...

I have no idea where to start!  I guess I'll start with my bundt cake.  Jay thought it was so pretty that the first thing he said was "Take a picture"  so, I did.  The sad thing is that this was so long ago, I don't remember what KIND of cake it was.
